By Carlo Petronio

Those notes originate from a seminar held in Pisa in November and December 1996 together by means of Riccardo Benedetti, Paolo Lisca and me. the purpose of those notes is to offer an in depth evidence of the subsequent end result because of Eliashberg and Thurston: THM allow M be a closed orientated 3-manifold and enable F be a cooriented C2-smooth codimension-1 foliation on M. think that (M,F) isn't diffeomorphic to the product foliation on S2xS1. Then arbitrarily as regards to F within the C0 topology there exist a favorable and a unfavorable C\infty touch constitution.

This leads to a rise in the reservation wage of union workers, thereby inducing a rise in union wages. Because of this general equilibrium effect, union wages may actually be higher under free trade than in autarky. The model also indicates that, within a context of industry-level union wage setting, the impact of changes in the degree of competition within each industry on union wages depends on the trade regime. Under autarky, union wages unambiguously increase with the number of firms operating in each sector.
